Dear Nisar
Just before Nicholas Fang left the office after watching
the closing ceremony of the South-east Asian Games, he remarked to
me: "I hope the temps had not caused too much trouble".
Well, Nick and all you other temps, I can honestly say this: No, you
did not. Leslie Fong, the Straits Times editor was pretty pleased
with the SEA Games coverage, I guess most of us at the Sports Desk
were too. |
It would be grossly unfair to ignore the contributions of the 10 of
you who were employed as temporary reporters during the Games. Although
given 'non-glamourous' beats, all managed to bring in at least one
page lead each. Congratulations.
Most of you worked well beyond the eight-hour daily stints. Your attitude
was certainly commendable. So too was your writing.
I have no hesitation to add that, if you do carry on with the same
degree of professionalism shown during the Games week, you will have
a sound future in journalism.
It was a privilege working with you. With best regards, Yours
sincerely
