“Lessons are not textbook-based, so it makes class very enjoyable. I also just became a peer support leader, and now take care of the younger students."

The Guildford Grammar School is located on the Swan River bank, 15 kilometres from Perth city. Among the educational facilities are a science building, technology, physical education and arts centres. The campus has two swimming pools, small boatshed, and fields for polocrosse and horse riding activities. Preparatory school children also enjoy hands-on lessons at the school farm.

“When we were looking at schools, the first thing that impressed me about Guildford Grammar was its ambience and environment. It was away from town - keeping my sons away from distractions - but not unreachable. The campus was a little town by itself with an amazing landscape and spread out facilities. Its about fifty times bigger than Singaporean schools,” said businessman William Zeng, 50, who has two sons studying in Perth.

His elder son, Darren, 25, a Guildford alumnus recently completed his double-degree with honours in Arts and Economics, and is currently pursuing his MBA degree at the University of Western Australia. The younger son, Daryl, 16, is currently in Year 11.

“I am enjoying life in Guildford. When we first arrived, my friends missed home but when you start having fun, you forget. School life is less stressful and our class sizes are small. Lessons are not textbook-based, so it makes class very enjoyable. I also just became a peer support leader, and now take care of the younger students,” relates Daryl who has been in Perth since 1999.

Guildford focuses on realising at the full potential of each student, through courses designed to stimulate intellectual development. There is also a heavy emphasis on academic and sporting excellence at a competitive level.

Murdoch College
Murdoch College offers accelerated learning for gifted and talented students through the Western Australian Universities’ Foundation Programme (WAUFP) - a unique programme that prepares international students for university success.

Developed by the four state universities in Western Australia, WAUFP enables students to qualify for university without having to complete Year 12 of high school. Students who complete this programme can apply for direct entry to undergraduate courses conducted at almost all Australian universities.

The college academic programme has a pastoral care infrastructure. Teachers work closely with parents to nurture each student. The college also has a teacher-advisor system that links every student with a teacher who becomes his mentor, advocate and friend.
