India - Streets of life
introduction

Queensland University of Technology student Nisar Keshvani, took a short break from university to visit India and here through his pictures he displays what the trip showed him about life.

Beyond the heavy gates of university and textbook theories of life, there lies a greater campus - the streets of India.

It is swarmed with people who amidst the daily struggle to survive are yet warm and friendly. Behind the glorious formal facade, no matter busy work gets, there is always time for a quick ciggie.

Pathways bustle with activity and youngsters turn handy skills to money-spinners. A steady hand allows for an outdoor barber’s post. Ever ready to give a routine shave complete with a pampered back massage.

In the heat, nothing beats living like a local and gulping down a well-mixed fruit juice. Stand by the stall as he navigates you through his array of fresh fruits, mix and match as you desire. Watch his display of “handy” talents with two huge mugs as he mixes a healthier drink than one from the coke dispenser.

Indulge and savour the taste of Indian sweetmeat. Rich with wheat and sweet to taste. If the vendor is not too busy, you can have a chat with him as he brings you through the history of the nearby Jama’ah Masjid (mosque).

Dentistry street-style may look like a shocker, though for public viewing, hygiene is still a priority. Be charmed as little children have fun on the streets and show their naive innocence chasing pigeons and having a quick wash.

Nothing beats a lesson in life than the streets of India.
